Apply Open Access

Open Access Option is for companies wishing to produce their own evening. Guaranteed spot: $200 Production Fee. This fee covers a maximum of 1-hour performance time in Studio 2 (black box theater) at the Athenaeum Theatre (date/time TBD), a 2 hour tech rehearsal, one tech staff member (lights/sound), marketing support and a sprung dance floor – default is marley, with wood option available for percussive dance.  The theater is approx 24’x24′ with a fixed general light plot.


Dance Chicago 2020-21 Stories of Dance will run at Chicago’s historic Athenaeum Theatre – 2936 N. Southport Ave. The performance venue is Studio 2 on the second floor. Dates to follow

For 26 years, Dance Chicago has been an incubator for the Windy City’s dance community by providing an accessible platform for artists to produce new work. Dance Chicago Stories of Dance series is supporting an open access platform for new works of dance.  These works can be as short as 30 minutes or as long as 60 minutes.  There are currently 10 slots available. Production Fee: $200

Stories of Dance Open Access is a first come, first served performance option. We must receive payment in full Prior to Nov. 1. There are no refunds if you cancel after Nov. 15. Fill in form below.

Artists are entered by date in the order in which they apply and payment is processed.

Admission is based on availability of open slots with a maximum of 10 slots.

Once your application and payment are received, you will get an official notification of your performance date and time from Dance Chicago staff. 

Once the 10 slots are filled, Dance Chicago will run a reserve list.

Dance Chicago and Artist will split the box office revenue 50/50.  Total potential payout for the Artist is $738 (based on 82 people at $18 average ticket price.)                                       


Dance Chicago is offering dancers, choreographers, small to midsize companies, soloists and collaborators, of any discipline, a supportive environment to present new work, re-stage repertory, and take chances. By offering an affordable option to the standard theater rental and administrative support, Dance Chicago hopes to encourage artists from a diverse background to show what makes Chicago dance so unique and spectacular.
